Victoria Beckham doesn’t just design luxury handbag — she also helped Land Rover as a guest creative designer on the Range Rover Evoque, which will officially launch at the Beijing international auto show on April 22nd. The Range Rover Evoque was previewed on July 1, 2010 at Range Rover’s 40th anniversary celebration, with Land Rover’s design director calling the coupe a bold evolution of Range Rover design.
In a sign of the times, Land Rover has opted to shrink the model in every way, offering two and four wheel drive versions and promising a fuel consumption of under 130g per kilometer. It is based on Range Rover’s LRX concept, which was introduced in 2008 as a smaller, sportier alternative to the medium and large Range Rover models on the market, and is likely to compete for SUV-drivers affections with the Jeep Cherokee.
The 2012 Range Rover Evoque is powered by a 2.0L Si4 turbo (aka 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged Ford EcoBoost) making 240-hp. Mated to a 6-speed automatic, the new Evoque goes from 0-60 mph in the 7 second range. Prices for the Range Rover Evoque 5-door start at $43,995 and $44,995 for the Range Rover Evoque coupe.
The car’s interior will be designed by Victoria Beckham, who said that she was very excited about her new appointment.
Range Rover Evoque was recently voted Car of the Year 2012 by visitors to the MSN Car automotive website. 30,000 readers of this site were involved in the survey to select the most popular car and Range Rover Evoque collected 12% of the votes even ahead of Aston Martin Virage which came in second place followed by McLaren MP4-12C which came in 3rd place with 8% votes.
Land Rover has made a vid to support the cause, but the clip is extremely frugal in terms of details, as it virtually doesn’t allow us to see anything related to the car. If you look really closely, you might even see the Evoque in it.
If you are not one of the lucky ones to be at the China International Exhibition Centre, Beijing, you can also follow the live unveiling on www.landrover.com/VictoriaBeckham.
