Ricoh’s brand new Theta camera is world’s first device which captures 360-degree spherical panoramas in a one shot. Theta was unveiled on September 5, 2013 at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin, Germany, and, now Ricoh will begin accepting preorders for this innovative camera, for a tax-inclusive price of £329 in the UK (it’s app $524). According to Ricoh, this device already begins shipping in October as well.
The Theta contains an “ultra-small” twin-lens optical system that captures any given scene around, above and below the device. It weighs 95g and fits comfortably in the palm of a hand, similar to a remote control. Below the lens is the shutter button, so it’s very easy for use – just press it with your thumb and there is no shaking.
The stylish and thin Theta can be controlled via your iOS device after you’ve downloaded the appropriate app. There isn’t a viewing display on the device itself. The device syncs with smartphones and tablets wirelessly so you can check your picture out immediately on the mobile screen. You can also use the Theta independently and transfer the photos to your phone or computer at a later time.
