Sandals’ largest and newest resort to date has re-opened in Jamaica. Previously the Sandals Grande Riviera Beach & Villa Golf Resort, the new property has been christened the Sandals Ochi Beach Resort. The 529-room hotel in Ochos Rios, which is the largest in Jamaica, also has more swimming pools than any other resort on the island – a remarkable 105.
On one side of the resort, the Ochi Beach Club Pool has a swim-up bar and fire pit. By day, it has an Ibiza-esque day-party vibe, by night it turns into an outdoor lounge. There are also poolside cabanas dotted around the main pool, with butler service. All have private and semi-private plunge pools. Other pools include the Manor House pool, which is split over three levels and features a fire pit, sundeck and submerged sun loungers in the top-tier pool. The Riviera Main Pool, which also has a swim-up bar, is near to the watersports centre.
There’s also a special scuba-certification pool. The Riviera Garden Pool is set among lush, tropical gardens. The resort has 16 restaurants, which includes everything from a seafront bar & grill and high-end French fare at Le Gourmand, to Southern soul at The Southern Table and local goods at Jerk Shack. There are also 11 bars, including the Caribbean’s first speakeasy The Rabbit Hole.
There’s also a spa, fitness centre and a host of different events, which include a ‘Popcorn and Palms’ alfresco cinema night, a Caribbean Carnivale beach party, a Reggae Bonanza and the Ultra Sizzle Pool Party. On the other side of the resort, by the Great House, is the signature Sandals ‘zero-entry’ pool, with sea views, tropical foliage, a whirlpool and swim-up bar. 98 pools are in the All-Butler Village, an enclave of private villas and ‘Love Nest Dream suites’ set into the mountainside.
