Over 800 items from Hollywood memorabilia including exceptional screen worn wardrobe, props, photographs, jewelry and celebrity owned items were offered at at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills Gallery on April 5 and 6, 2013. The highlight of the auction was Superman IV Christopher Reeve special effect flying costume, sold for $35,000, 10% more than the suit’s original estimate.
The distinctive multi-piece bodysuit consists of a custom blue knit leotard with the stylized Superman logo sewn into the front, a zipper closure in back, and an embroidered Bermans and Nathans costumer tag with faded typed text reading “Christopher Reeve – 4913 Flying – Superman IV.”
The costume was brand new to the market, having remained in a private British collection for 26 years.
In addition to the Christopher Reeve Superman costume, other memorabilia up for auction pertaining to the Man of Steel included a pair of reference boots from “Superman: III” (selling for $5,760) and a cut sheet signed by “Adventures of Superman” star, George Reeves (selling for $384).
