Grovemade wooden speakers are a bit strange because of its unusual form that evokes confusing sources of our imagination …Made from a single piece of maple or walnut wood , these desktop speakers are works of art from Portland based company Grovemade and their collaboration with industrial designer Joey Roth. They have created a speaker system that could only exist with Grovemade’s unique approach to product and his experience in audio design.
Each Grovemade Speaker is made of two halves that are first CNC machined on one side, then flipped and machined again to complete a rough version of the outer form. The two halves are glued together with a high performance epoxy, small pins ensuring perfect alignment. The speaker shells are hand shaped by our craftsmen through three levels of power and hand sanding, making each piece truly one of a kind.
Natural oil is applied, buffed, and left to dry overnight to finish the wood. The process is repeated the following day with a second coat, and dried for another night.
The electronic components are installed and capped with a stainless steel stand which is then covered with premium vegetable-tanned leather for a clean, finished look.
The speakers come complete with a small box for wired connectivity, and are designed to be used with computers, turntables, and other line-level audio sources. Dual 25-watt amplifiers power 2-inch full-range driver in each speaker, while the back-loaded horn is designed to create more powerful lows.
If you want to grab one, you’ll have to hand over $599 for the walnut set and $499 for maple option.
