Updown Court – Most Expensive Home in Britain
Most expensive UK home, located only 25 miles from London has gone up for sale for £75 million ($123 million). This newly built mansion, Updown Court was listed six years back for $143.5 million, and now has been re-listed with reduced price tag.
Luxury home in the Surrey village of Windleshamstands in 58 acres of grounds and offers 103 rooms, five swimming pools, two penthouse apartments, a helipad, an eight-limousine garage, and mosaic floor made of 24-karat gold leaf in the downstairs study. The mansion has a 50-seat cinema, a two-lane bowling alley, a gymnasium, a squash court, a flood-lit tennis court, a lake, a wine cellar for 3.000 bottles and a panic room.
Updown Court is larger in area than both the royal residences of Hampton Court Palace or Buckingham Palace. The estate was built in 2002 on the site of an earlier property which was owned during the 1970s by Prince Sami Gayed of Egypt, and for its construction were used some of the world’s rarest materials – mainly Italian marble.
The owner of most expensive UK home is actually developer Leslie Allen-Vercoe, 67 and his company Rhymer Investments purchased it in 2002 out of receivership for £20 million, and has since spent at least £30million on renovation work. Now, an Irish bank has requested a drive to sell the mansion with a new price tag which reflects the vast sums ploughed into it.
